A NATURAL JEWEL: THE FONTI DEL CLITUNNO
Driving on the S.S.3 Flaminia from Foligno to Spoleto you find a natural jewel described also by poets since ancient times:The Fonti del Clitunno.
Here the waters of Clitunno river flow into Teverone river and comes out from the spring rocks.
The result is a magic, enchanting small lake of cold, calm and clear water; it is rich of water vegetation,
and is surrounded by old willows, poplars and cypressus trees.
Here live elegant swans and some ducks: they follow the rythm of nature and come nearby if you give them food.
This place was well known on the Roman age when some villas and thermal baths were built in the area.
Plinio the Younger described it as absolutely to be visited; then also George Byron and Giosuč Carducci wrote about the beauty of the Fonti del Clitunno.
At about kms.1 there is the gorgeous Tempietto sul Clitunno, a pagan building datet back IV Century d.c.
The best way to appreciate the atmosphere of this incredible place is to sit and admire the changing of vegetation and water colours according to the sun position and the light that filters between the trees.
This is the perfect place to regenerate mind and soul.
